Description of the workshop:

Physics Goal:
One of the most important goals in modern nuclear physics is to understand the nuclear matter properties at low and high densities, and at low temperatures.  In particular, matter properties at densities higher than normal nuclear matter have been a major subject of interest.  Experimentally, relativistic heavy ion collisions provide a powerful tool available in the laboratory to study the nuclear matter.  Observations of massive stars also provide useful information because the core of the neutron stars is considered to form high density nuclear matter.
As the density increases, in addition to ordinary nucleons (protons and neutrons) strange particles (hyperons) appear as new and explicit degrees of freedom. Furthermore, hadron structure becomes relevant as they start to overlap at high densities.  Therefore, in order to approach the problems, it is necessary to develop a strategy based on a wide scope, (1) to treat the nuclear many-body systems consisting of nucleons and hyperons, (2) with the interactions among the nucleons and hyperons including non only two-body forces but also three-body (in general many-body) by considering their internal structures, and (3) to make a phenomenological framework to relate the fundamental theoretical studies based on (1) and (2) with the observations of heavy ion collisions and neutron stars. To understand the baryon structure and their interactions also necessitates the study of exotic hadrons which is important for hadron structure. Moreover, it is needed to describe them from the fundamental theory of the strong interaction, the quantum chromodynamics (QCD). 
 
Philosophy:
The workshop aims at the exchanges of the recent progresses in the above subjects, encouraging the activities among the young scientists.  Thus we welcome the participations of young scientists such as PhD students and postdocs. We would like to provide this workshop as an opportunity for them to meet and make friendship, which will be of great help for them in their future career.  We consider it particularly important to establish such background among Asian countries.  From the physics point of view, the workshop subjects cover a wide range from the fundamentals of the strong interactions to the variety of phenomena of nuclear physics, with theory and experiments.  Therefore, the workshop is useful to provide a wide scope of physics.   
 
History:
The current style of the HNP workshop was initiated among South Korea, Japan and China.  It was extended to include broader countries after the discussions at the last workshop in Zhangjiajie with the motivation of enhance the research force in eastern and south eastern Asia.   The Hadron Nuclear Physics is organized approximately every 2 years since 2009 when it was named Hadron Nuclear Physics workshop.  Previous editions have taken place in Osaka (Japan) 2009, Pohang (Korea) 2011, Zhangjiajie (China) 2013 and Thailand (2015).  Another philosophy in this workshop is to encourage young scientists to have interest in  hot and  important topic in physics.
