Abstract:
Where do the elements heavier than iron, such as gold and uranium, come from? This remains one of the greatest unanswered questions in astrophysics. I will briefly review recent progress of theoretical understandings for the astrophysical origin of r-process, in particular for the recently favored scenario of neutron star mergers, as well as some related nuclear physics issues.
