First I am going to discuss the possibility of vector symmetry breaking, then introduce the chiral invariant expansion technique of the functional renormalization group flows. With the help of this method, it will be shown that a finite temperature phase transition can only be of first order in the system. Finally I am going to show how to treat the U_A(1) anomaly within FRG, and show that depending on the actual choice of the parameters, thermal mesonic fluctuations can either strengthen or weaken the anomaly.
