3rd Announcement

 

Dear Colleagues,

This is the third announcement for the 32nd World Conference of the International Nuclear Target Development Society (INTDS2026), which will be hosted by RIKEN and held at the RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-based Science in Wako, Saitama, Japan, from August 30th to September 4th, 2026.

 

We are pleased to announce that a joint session will be held for the first time with the 20th Workshop on Targetry and Target Chemistry (WTTC20) (https://wttc20.ric.u-tokyo.ac.jp ) on August 31st, 2026.

WTTC focuses on solid, liquid, and gas targets for accelerator-based radionuclide production, as well as post-irradiation chemical processing.

This joint session aims to foster deeper discussion and interaction on the research and development between beams and targets and to promote cross-disciplinary exchange among the communities.

 

This workshop will be conducted in person.

Conference Venue:

The conference will take place in the large conference room on the second floor of the Administrative Headquarters at RIKEN Wako campus ( https://www.riken.jp/en/access/wako-map/#campus_map ).  The registration desk is located in the foyer of the main conference room. The registration desk will be open from 8:30 AM. Please note that the entrance of the Administrative Headquarters is usually locked and cannot be unlocked by your temporary ID card before 8 AM. and after 6 PM.

 

 

Scope and Program Timetable:

The conference will provide an international forum for researchers, engineers, and technical experts working on target preparation, characterization, and target-related technologies.
The scope of INTDS 2026 covers a broad range of topics, including high-purity and special materials for target fabrication, thin films and foils, radioactive targets, liquid and gas targets, beam charge strippers, targets for high-intensity beams, targets for special applications such as medical, industrial, and controlled-fusion research, and target characterization.
The conference aims to promote the exchange of recent developments, practical knowledge, and technical experience among target makers and users from research facilities worldwide.

 

 

 

Instructions to Speakers

·         Oral presentations

Oral presentations must be presented from the computer (Windows) set up in the conference room. Use of individual laptops cannot be accommodated.

Speakers must upload their presentation to the conference page (https://indico2.riken.jp/event/5355/). They must do this at least one day before their scheduled presentation time.

 

·         Duration: Contributed Oral: 15+5 min, Invited Oral: 50+10 min.

Each contributed oral presentation duration will be limited to a maximum of 15 minutes. After that, there will be 5 minutes devoted to answering questions from the audience. Invited oral presentations are limited to a maximum of 50 minutes with 10 minutes devoted to answering questions from the audience.

 

·         Formats: PDF or PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx)

Visuals for oral presentations should be in Microsoft PowerPoint file (.ppt or .pptx), or PDF file (.pdf).

Fonts must be embedded in your presentation file. (embedding fonts)

We will prepare Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Compatibility of animation or video files must be checked by the speaker themselves before their session.

 

·         Upload procedure:

From the contribution list on the workshop page, select your talk. In your contribution page,

scroll down to the Presentation Materials section and click on the pencil icon ( ) on the left side of the section (You need to be logged in to show the icon). In the Manage Material window, select Upload files. In the Upload files window, click on Choose from your computer and select a file from your device. Alternatively, you can drag and drop your file in the area indicated. Then, click the Upload button at the bottom of the window.

 

Registration and Conference fee:

Registration fees are described below.

Please pay the fee at the conference registration desk. Only credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, American Express, etc.) are accepted. We use a Square card reader (https://squareup.com/us/en ) for credit card payments (on-site payment only). A receipt will be issued by the LOC.

 

 

 

Regardless of participation or non-participation of each item, the registration fee is a flat fee. All cancellations must be provided in written to the LOC.

Important Reminder for Train from Ikebukuro Station to Wako-shi Station


The Tokyo Metro subway system offers through trains to Kawagoe-shi station on the TOBU Tojo line, and Hanno station on the SEIBU Ikebukuro line. Please make sure to take a train leaving for Wako-shi & TOBU Tojo line.

 

Access from Wako-shi-Station to RIKEN

Walk: 15 minutes walk from the Station

Bus: 10 minutes (SEIBU Bus #39 bound for Oizumigakuen)

Heat Advisory

Summer temperatures in Japan can be extremely high, with daytime temperatures often exceeding 35°C (95°F).
If you are traveling from the nearest station, we recommend taking a taxi or local bus instead of walking whenever possible.
A sun umbrella (parasol) is provided in your conference bag to help protect you from the strong sunlight.
Please drink plenty of water and take appropriate precautions against the heat.

Nihonium street

If you have some free time, we recommend taking a stroll along Nihonium Street after the sessions, when the weather is usually cooler. The street connects Wakoshi Station and the RIKEN campus, and features plaques representing all 118 chemical elements in celebration of the discovery of element 113, nihonium (Nh), at RIKEN.

Entry Procedures for Visitors

1.     An invitation email containing a QR code will be sent to you via the Visitor Registration System before the conference begins.

2.     Please show your QR code at the West Gate Guard Station for check-in.

3.     A temporary entry pass (green lanyard) will be issued after check-in

4.     Please return your temporary entry pass to the West Gate Guard Station every time you leave RIKEN.

Important Notes:

·         Temporary entry passes must be returned at the end of each day.

·         The same QR code remains valid throughout the entire conference period.

·         One temporary entry pass will be issued per QR code. If you are attending with an accompanying person, their QR code will be sent to the main participant. Please forward it to them.

We are planning a short excursion to Omiya City, Saitama Prefecture, on Wednesday (Sep. 2). It is encouraged to make a reservation as soon as possible. From Wako-shi station, it takes 15 minutes to get to RIKEN Nishina Center on foot. You can find many hotels in the Ikebukuro area on hotel booking websites such as Expedia and Hotels.com. From Ikebukuro station to Wako-shi station, it takes 12 minutes by the Tobu-Tojo line or the Metro Fukutoshin line, as shown in the Map. If you have any problems in finding your hotels, please contact the LOC.

 

Lab tour:

RIBF tour is scheduled on Tuesday evening (Sep. 1).

We invite you to RIBF tour at RIKEN Wako campus. In the tour, we will visit mainly two facilities: Cyclotron (SRC) and Fragment Separators (BigRIPS). In the tour, we ask you to divide several groups, but all groups will visit both facilities. Your group is marked on your name card.


The Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory (RIBF) is a facility generating unstable nuclei of all elements up to uranium and studying their properties. The RIBF is characterized by the fact that it is a multistage accelerator complex, which is generally not seen elsewhere in the world. The final-stage accelerator, the Superconducting Ring Cyclotron (SRC), is the first of a kind and is the largest (weighing 8,300 tons) and most powerful in the world. The accelerated high intensity heavy ion beams (~10kW) are injected to Fragment Separator called BigRIPS to generate an RI beam for all elements up to uranium with the world-highest intensity. These beams are provided to several experimental systems such as SHARAQ, SAMURAI, ZeroDegree to study nuclear physics and reveal the evolution of the universe.
