Pebbles are one of the essential concepts in planet formation. Yet, their properties have not been clearly addressed. In this focused workshop, we bring together experts on dust experiments, dust N-body simulations, dust coagulation, planetesimal formation, and disk observations to discuss the pebbles from different perspectives.

The main topics we will address are the following:

  • Are pebbles fragile? Are they compact or fluffy? How do those pebbles form in the first place?
  • Can we confirm pebbles in protoplanetary disks?
  • Is there any evidence of pebbles in the early solar nebula through solar system explorations?
  • What are the key properties of pebbles for planetesimal formation? Under what conditions do planetesimals form from pebbles?
