Access to Kyoto Station

From Haneda Airport (Tokyo)

From Haneda Airport, take the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho Station, then transfer to the JR Yamanote Line to Tokyo Station.

From Tokyo Station, take the JR Tokaido Shinkansen to Kyoto Station.
The total travel time is approximately 2.5–3 hours.

Alternatively, you may go via Shinagawa Station; however, transferring at Tokyo Station is often more straightforward, especially for first-time visitors.

From Narita Airport (Tokyo)

From Narita Airport, take the Narita Express (N’EX) to Tokyo Station or Shinagawa Station, and then transfer to the JR Tokaido Shinkansen to Kyoto Station. The total travel time is approximately 3.5–4 hours.

From Kansai International Airport (KIX)

From Kansai International Airport, the most convenient option is the JR Haruka Limited Express, which goes directly to Kyoto Station without transfers. The travel time is approximately 75 minutes.

Alternatively, airport limousine buses to Kyoto Station are also available.

TIPS: Shinkansen tickets and reservations

  • Shinkansen tickets can be purchased at ticket counters or ticket machines at major JR stations.
  • Seat reservations for the Tokaido Shinkansen can also be made online using the Smart EX / EX App, which allows you to reserve and change tickets via smartphone.
  • Please note that IC cards cannot be used directly for boarding the Shinkansen unless they are linked to an EX reservation.
