Accommodation in Kyoto
Kyoto is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and offers a wide variety of hotels. For your stay, we recommend the Shijo–Karasuma area (around the intersection of Shijo-dori Avenue and Karasuma-dori Avenue) and the Shijo–Kawaramachi area (around the intersection of Shijo-dori Avenue and Kawaramachi-dori Avenue). We have prepared a list of approximately twenty reasonably priced hotels (about 50–100 EUR per night per person) located in these districts. You can reserve a hotel via hotels.com or booking.com, or directly through the hotel’s official website.
First, these areas are located in central Kyoto and form the city’s main shopping and dining districts. You will find a wide range of restaurants for lunch and dinner, including not only Japanese cuisine but also Italian, French, Chinese, and other international options.
Second, these areas are very convenient for commuting to and from the conference venue, the Science Seminar House, North Campus of Kyoto University. You can take Kyoto City Bus No. 3 directly to Asukaicho, from which the venue is about a 6-minute walk. The total travel time is approximately 30 minutes. Bus stops are located along Shijo-dori Avenue and then Kawaramachi-dori Avenue, close to most hotels in these areas. Kyoto City Bus No. 3 is generally less crowded than major tourist bus lines, making it a comfortable option. Bus stops for No. 3 are shown in the Hotel Map.
Third, access to Kyoto Station is also convenient. Kyoto Station is only two stops from Shijo Station on the Karasuma Subway Line. If you have heavy luggage, taking a taxi is also an easy option, as the distance is relatively short (approximately 2 km).
